Content usage rights and whitelisting

What usage rights for influencer content are, what drives their cost, what whitelisting is and what must be agreed before TV use.

What are content usage rights and how much do they cost?

Usage rights define where, for how long and how a brand may use content made by an influencer: on its website, in ads, in stores or on TV. Publication on the creator’s account does not include them automatically. Cost depends on channels, territory, duration and exclusivity, and is negotiated separately from production.

  • Organic publication: platform and duration.
  • Reuse on brand channels: media and period.
  • Paid promotion or whitelisting: access, budget, duration.
  • Exclusivity: category and period.
  • TV extension: licence, territory, editing and airtime.

What is whitelisting and when is it worth it?

Whitelisting means the brand runs paid ads from the creator’s identity, with the creator’s authorisation, through platform tools (for example Partnership Ads on Meta or Spark Ads on TikTok). It is worth it when content performed well organically and you want to show it to a larger audience. Access, duration, budget and revocation must be agreed.

A creator never needs to share their account password for whitelisting. Authorisation happens only through the platform’s official tools.

What must be agreed before a video reaches TV?

Before TV broadcast, agree the creator’s television licence, releases from people filmed, music rights and permission to re-edit the footage. Social media permission does not automatically cover television. Unify Social builds these points into Brand TV News planning.
