Rules for promoting pharmaceutical products with influencers in Romania
Which health products can be promoted with influencers in Romania, the role of ANMDMR and what is checked before filming and publication.
What are the legal rules for promoting pharmaceutical products with influencers in Romania?
The rules depend on product classification. Prescription-only medicines cannot be advertised to the general public, so not through influencers either. Non-prescription (OTC) medicines can be advertised within the law, using materials approved by ANMDMR. Food supplements, medical devices and cosmetics follow different regimes.
The European framework is Title VIII of Directive 2001/83/EC, transposed into Romanian medicines law. Food supplements fall under health-claim rules, and cosmetics under cosmetic-claim rules.
What is checked before pharma content is published?
Before filming, the client’s medical and legal teams check: product classification, whether advertising to the public is permitted, the exact wording of claims and any required approval. The approved version of the video, caption and advertising label is kept on record.
- Classification: medicine, device, supplement or cosmetic.
- Eligibility: permitted product, audience and promotion.
- Claims: wording and evidence validated by the client.
- Approval: ANMDMR requirements for product and material.
- Final version: approvals retained for video, caption and label.
What may an influencer say about a health product?
Only claims approved by the manufacturer and permitted for that product type. The creator does not promise a cure, does not suggest the product replaces treatment and does not give medical advice. Unify Social writes permitted wording and restrictions into the brief, and nothing is published without client approval.
